Picturing Scotland: Southern Argyll
Content: Following the introduction, which provides an overview of Southern Argyll, a photographic journey through the Mull of Kintyre, Knapdale, the islands of Gigha, Islay, Jura and Colonsay and the area from Lochgilphead to Crinan captures its moods and illustrates the principal landmarks and places of interest. It reaches as far as Dunadd in Kilmartin Glen, where it meets the territory covered in the Northern Argyll volume in this series. The images include the grand panoramas, historic features, towns and villages, coasts and wildlife that make this part of Scotland so special. From the distilleries of Islay to the Paps of Jura, the variety is broad in this new collection of around 80 pictures, the great majority of which are published here for the first time.
Market: This is an ideal book for those who love Argyll and will open the eyes of those yet to discover this area. Very good value at just under £5, it also makes an ideal gift for friends and relatives and those who have family connections with Scotland. It is hoped that this book will be an encouragement for those who have never travelled to the area to make their own visit and discover some of the less well-known places it illustrates. It is especially hoped that this book will play a small part in providing a lasting memory for all those who return to their homeland as so many did during the Year of Homecoming (Homecoming Scotland 2009).
