The Isle of Skye: a pictorial souvenir
This conveniently sized hardback book is illustrated throughout with over 80 photographs. It provides a degree and style of regional coverage not widely available and is part of a series of regional Scottish books. The introduction, which provides an overview of the area, is followed by a photographic tour of the Isle of Skye.
Market: This is an ideal book for those who love Scotland and all things Scottish and for those who do not know Scotland at all. Very good value at just under £5, it also makes an ideal gift for friends and relatives and those who have family connections with Scotland. It is hoped that this book will be an encouragement for those who have never travelled to the area to make their own visit and discover some of the less well-known places it illustrates. It is especially hoped that this book will play a small part in providing a lasting memory for all those who return to their homeland as so many did during the Year of Homecoming (Homecoming Scotland 2009).
Content: A photographic tour of the Isle of Skye that works its way around the island from the Skye Bridge down to Sleat in the south, then northwards in a series of excursions into the various peninsulas that make up so much of it. In this way it explores the route to Elgol with its matchless views of the Cuillins, then circles round to Glen Brittle to take in the other side of these mountains. Settlements such as Broadford, Portree and Dunvegan are featured, as are many other places of interest to visitors. The extraordinary landscapes of the Trotternish Peninsula are thoroughly examined. Other outlying areas such Duirinish and Waternish appear in turn. The neighbouring Isle of Raasay is also included. All in all, the book aims to present the shapes and colours, moods and atmosphere of this remarkable Hebridean island. Illustrated with over 80 colour photographs, most of which have been taken especially for this book. A useful list of many visitor attractions on the Isle of Skye and their contact details is shown at the end.
