Lochaber: a pictorial souvenir (New)

This conveniently sized hardback book is illustrated throughout with over 80 photographs. It provides a degree and style of regional coverage not widely available and is part of a series of regional Scottish books. The introduction, which provides an overview of the area, is followed by a photographic tour of Lochaber.

Market: This is an ideal book for those who love Scotland and all things Scottish and for those who do not know Scotland at all. Very good value at just under £5, it also makes an ideal gift for friends and relatives and those who have family connections with Scotland. It is hoped that this book will be an encouragement for those who have never travelled to the area to make their own visit and discover some of the less well-known places it illustrates. It is especially hoped that this book will play a small part in providing a lasting memory for all those who return to their homeland as so many did during the Year of Homecoming (Homecoming Scotland 2009).

Content: The district of Lochaber dates back to ancient times and comprises a region of western Scotland based on the town of Fort William. It boasts a wealth of treasures for the visitor, including Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain; Loch Morar, Scotland’s deepest loch; and two of the country’s principal skiing areas. This photographic tour aims to capture that variety and illustrate the principal landmarks and places of interest. It takes the reader from the empty land of Knoydart in the north to westerly Ardnamurchan and glorious Glen Coe in the south of the region. Most of the photographs were taken especially for this book. A useful list of many visitor attractions in Lochaber and their contact details is shown at the end.
