Welcome to Ness Publishing

In 2007 Ness Publishing embarked on an ambitious project to photograph the whole of Scotland in order to produce a series of regional, photographically illustrated books. Our first four books published in May 2008 and the 2011 new titles will bring the series up to 18 books. This year we decided to re-brand our series Picturing Scotland and our 2011 new titles all appear under this name. As we revise and expand the current titles (Pictorial Souvenirs) they will all follow the Picturing Scotland branding.

The aim of the series is to encapsulate the beauty, drama and charm of each area of Scotland. The books are enjoyed by people visiting Scotland for the first time, those returning for another taste, Scots living abroad or those who have family connections with Scotland, while local folk often give them as presents to show off the area in which they live. They encourage the reader to seek out places that they might otherwise miss and provide a lasting record of the beauties of each region.

Owners of the company, Colin and Eithne Nutt, have been in the publishing business for over 30 years. Colin became increasingly involved in photography as we began to produce illustrated books and the great majority of the photographs are his. We aim to capture scenes which are off the beaten track as well as classic images. This often involves many miles of walking and climbing, quite a lot of disappointment as promised good weather vanishes into mist and rain and great jubilation when perfect weather finally appears!
